What type pad would you get?

Ok, so I'm deciding between a regular old half pad and a Mattes pad (the one you can add fleece to adjust to your horse's needs. I'm not worried about the expense, my horse needs it. She has high whithers and a bony back (from poor nutrition and riding). What have been your experiences with the Mattes pad?
