Is there something wrong with my Wiimote speaker?

Alright, so I popped in Super Smash Bros. Brawl this evening, and you know how every time you pick a character on the select screen they make some noise that comes out of the speaker on the Wiimote (Like Captain Falcon goes "UUEEEAAHHH!!!!")? Well, for some reason, that doesn't happen anymore. It kind of worries me. I select a character and just hear the announcer say the name, and that's it. I'm wondering if there's something wrong with the speaker. I also happen to have a 4-year-old nephew who plays my video games sometimes, and I'm worried he might have screwed up something. But after it didn't work with my first Wiimote, I shut off the game and tried again with my second. Still nothing. Can anyone help?
